TAX DOLLARS FOR CALIFORNIA
I just heard last week that California, the most politically liberal state in the Union, is no longer debating the abortion issue—it has already decided it will join with others in the slaughter of 1,000,000 preborn babies each year. The issue in California is now how it will be done. Some want to perform abortions by chemicals, in which case the baby is burned to death.

Others want to take the life of the unborn child by pushing a sharp object (a knife) into the back of the head, in which case the baby is cut up. Yes, I know that this is quite gruesome. And, guess what. California wants federal tax dollars to pay for the performance of these abortions. Do you support this? If not, those who do support it will say you are a bigot.

Also, we were told that our health insurance dollars would not be used for this, but we wait to see. I am reminded of some Scriptures: “Woe unto those who call evil good” (Isa. 5:20); among the seven things God hates is “they who shed innocent blood” (Prov. 6:17-18); “You shall not kill” (Rom. 13:9).

What can a Christian do? He can go the polls and vote against any candidate who supports such atrocity. Or, we can support candidates who support abortion. Or, we can stay at home and talk about how bad things are.

What will you do? If someone says, “I don’t know where my candidate stands on this issue”, it should be remembered that we are responsible for not only what we know but also for what we could have found out (Matt. 11:20-24).

HOUSTON, TEXAS MAYOR BACK TRACTS
The mayor of Houston recently asked some selected preachers of that city to submit to her copies of sermons they had recently preached to see if they had said negative things about homosexuality, same sex marriages, and related matters. The request soon drew national attention and the outcry was so great that she withdrew her request. There is something in the United States Constitution about free speech, and the mayor’s request was in violation of the Constitution, so she dropped it. Interesting.

FREEDOM OF RELIGION
When the Founding Fathers of this country drew up the Constitution they said that the government would “establish no religion”. By this they meant that the government would support no single religion. They had in mind the freedom of religion, but they never intended that the country be free from religion.

However, when the name of God or prayer or religion is mentioned in the public arena, we are told by some that this cannot be done because our Constitution stands for “Separation of church and State.” This is far from the intention of the Founding Fathers and anyone who knows our history as a nation knows that this is true. Perhaps this is the reason that our public schools do not teach that part of our history. Mark it well: many in this country are not practicing the freedom of religion, but what they are practicing is anti-religion. If we continue to listen to these folks, we will not like where they will lead us.
